Timber, Painted Timber and Timber Based Panels, Foil & Vinyl Doors – General Guidance

Do not use wax-furniture polish, abrasive or aggressive cleaners, bleach or other hypochlorite (chlorine) based cleaners, multipurpose cleaners, dilutes, acetone, alcohol, solvent or similar products on the door, as this will damage the surface.  Additionally, wax and polishes leave a residue build up which can be difficult to remove.  Polishes some cleaning agents can also be lightly abrasive too so these could result in scratches, “swirl marks”, etc.

Only use a 5% soap, 95% water (liquid soap) solution, wiping with a damp (not wet) cloth, finally drying immediately with a soft, clean, dry cloth only.

Ensure all cooking splashes are wiped immediately with a damp cloth and dried immediately.

Moisture: excess moisture can damage a timber and timber based panel products - it is recommended that susceptible areas such as around the sink and dishwasher are thoroughly maintained and kept dry at all times.

Dust with a soft cloth only.

Never use any abrasive pads or abrasive cleaners on the furniture or any part of the cabinets, including pullouts and appliances.  Spills and condensation on the fascias/panels should be cleaned and dried immediately – areas to note are sink, dishwasher and surrounding units, units around boiling kettles and hobs.

Please note your guarantee may be adversely affected if products are used for non-general domestic environments or subjected to uses and treatment beyond what might reasonably be expected or that they were designed and/or intended for.

Timber & Veneered Doors

Cleaning: when cleaning timber doors you must follow the pattern of the grain. It is advisable to use a damp (not wet) cloth to remove fingerprints and marks, followed at once with a clean and dry soft cloth.

Moisture: excess moisture can damage a timber product - it is recommended that susceptible areas such as around the sink and dishwasher are thoroughly maintained and kept dry at all times.

Light: timber changes colour when exposed to light. Light, lacquered surfaces also have a certain tendency to “yellow with age” depending on the exposure to light. The species of timber and intensity of exposure will affect the rate of change.

It is advised that colour change is taken into consideration when replacing or fitting new doors sometime after the original kitchen has been installed.

PVC & High Gloss Finished Doors

PVC/Lacquer coated products are manufactured from the highest quality materials. Please be careful not to puncture the PVC/melamine/ABS edging and/or lacquered surface of your panels. These should be kept dry at all times to prevent moisture ingress.

Moisture: Periodically clean the interior and exterior surfaces of the door using a soft, damp cloth. Wipe dry all surfaces immediately after cleaning.

Moisture: excess moisture can damage a timber product - it is recommended that susceptible areas such as around the sink and dishwasher are thoroughly maintained and kept dry at all times.

Use only cleaning agents that are intended for the materials used in your kitchen. Avoid any agents that contain ammonia, alcohol, bleach or an abrasive.

If the surface of the product is exposed to any oil based substance (for example olive oil, butter, margarine or cooking oil), the spillage must be wiped away immediately to prevent staining. Grease marks caused by these oil-based products can easily be removed by use of a mild detergent, non-abrasive cleaner if used immediately after spillage has happened.

Abrasive cleaners are not recommended for this type of product. Do not expose the doors or panels to temperature in excess of 60°C (140°F) (Approximately the temperature of washing up water).

Light: If the doors are supplied with a protective film on the face they must not be directly exposed to sunlight. Once installation is complete, carefully remove the protective film from the front of the fascia. We also advise that colour change is taken into consideration when replacing or fitting new doors sometime after the original kitchen has been installed.

Painted Doors – Additional, General Guidance and Advice

Cleaning: it is advisable to use a damp (not wet) cloth to remove fingerprints and marks, followed at once with a clean and dry soft cloth. Any form of furniture polish or other cleaning products should be avoided.

Moisture: excess moisture can damage a timber or timber based panel product - it is recommended that susceptible areas such as around the sink and dishwasher are thoroughly maintained and kept dry at all times.

Light: painted finishes will change colour when exposed to light - the intensity of exposure will affect the rate of change.

Please be advised that colour change must be taken into consideration when replacing or fitting new doors sometime after the original kitchen, bedroom, furniture, etc. has been installed.  It is impossible for us to guarantee an exact colour match between batches and to account for environmental effects on existing door and panel colour(s).

Stained Doors

Our range of stains are protected by an application of lacquer.

Cleaning: it is advisable to use a damp (not wet) cloth to remove fingerprints and marks, followed at once with a clean and dry soft cloth.

Light: stained finishes will change colour when exposed to light - the intensity of exposure will affect the rate of change.

Please be advised that colour change be taken into consideration when replacing or fitting new doors some time after the original kitchen, bedroom, furniture, etc. has been installed.

Sanded Doors

Cleaning: sanded products are unfinished and therefore the care of these doors will depend on the type of finish applied, eg paint, stain, wax etc.

We advise clients to see the above advice for general care guidance relating to different finishes and to review any guidance on the coating’s manufacturer’s website for the coating they choose/apply.  Anything stipulated or required by the coating’s manufacturer shall supersede any advice given by RW Group Ltd and/or any member of its team.

Where a client chooses their own finish manufacturer it is their responsibility to ensure the suitability of the product and any care instructions.

Cabinets

Cleaning: it is advisable to use a damp (not wet) cloth to clean the interiors of your cabinets, followed at once with a clean and dry soft cloth. Any form of furniture polish or other cleaning products should be avoided.

Abrasive cleaners are not recommended for this type of product.

Moisture: excess moisture can damage a timber product and a timber based panel product such as that used to build your kitchen cabinets - it is recommended that all areas be kept dry at all times and that particularly susceptible areas, such as around the sink, dishwasher, washing machine, etc., be thoroughly maintained and kept dry at all reasonable times.

Please ensure that pullouts, drawers, etc are used properly.  ALWAYS observe the maximum weight allowances stipulated by the different manufacturers.  While the following may change from time to time as products are changed or updated, and so clients MUST ENSURE that they check the manufacturer’s instructions manuals and or websites and technical support teams please note the following:

We advise clients to ALWAYS register their appliances and their warranties with the manufacturer in accordance with their manufacturer’s guidance as soon as possible and within any timeframe stipulated by the manufacturer (normally via the manufacturer’s website).

Please ensure that appliances are used and maintained for the purpose they were intended and as per the manufacturer’s instructions or guidance.  It is, at all times, the sole responsibility of the customer to ensure the proper installation, use and maintenance of appliances and to avoid falling foul of any manufacturer warranty restrictions.

To the extent that neither RW Group Ltd nor any of its team install appliances or accessories, RW Group LTD, trading as Rosewood Kitchens, and its employees or representatives, is/are in no way responsible or liable for ensuring that installation is carried out appropriately and as required by the individual manufacturers.  Where advice is given by any employee or representative or agent, or anyone affiliated with RW Group Ltd/Rosewood Kitchens, this does not override any requirements stipulated by the appliance manufacturer in either their installation manual, their website or otherwise or any legal or regulatory requirements.

Further Information About Your Kitchen, Bedroom, Furniture and Timber in General

Please note that colour variations are normal and that we cannot guarantee 100% colour matches for items from different batches, replacement items etc.  This is in addition to the “maturing” of colours as a result of their environment.

Please note your guarantee may be adversely affected if products are used for non-general domestic environments or subjected to uses beyond what might reasonably be expected.  Your guarantee may be adversely affected if products are abused, not maintained regularly and in accordance with any specific or general instructions.

All our painted kitchens are made from either solid timber or timber based panel products.  As a result of being a natural product they are susceptible to expansion and shrinkage depending on the environment in which they are installed.

This means that doors could expand when there is an abundance of moisture in the air, particularly in winter or when excess moisture is prevalent in renovated or new builds.  Contraction may occur in the summer months when the climate is drier.  This potential natural movement of the timber or timber based product can cause any layer of paint, lacquer, varnish, etc. that has been applied, to move with it and may result in panel shrinkage and hairline cracks, for example, along the joints of the door.  This is considered to be a positive feature, adding an authentic look and feel to the kitchen and forms part of the natural qualities of timber and timber based panel products.

Please note that the above does not apply to laminate or foil doors which, unlike timber and timber based panel products, remain static.

Please note that in the event of hairline cracks appearing on doors, neither RW Group Ltd (trading as Rosewood Kitchens) nor its suppliers, will be held liable.
